Background

The project secured a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) in November 2012 with the South African electricity utility, Eskom. On 21 May 2014, the project achieved Commercial Operation Date (COD), at which point the plant was certified fully operational.

The Lesedi Power Project is in South Africa’s sun-drenched Northern Cape Province, characterised by minimal rainfall and vast, open areas. As such, it’s the ideal location for solar farming. It’s also among the best areas in the world for high irradiance.
